USC Loses

They put up a fight until the end, but USC lost their first game of the season, against un-ranked Oregon State (who came into the game with three losses). At one point USC was behind by 20 points, but rallied to a 33-31 loss. The team is not the same without a Heisman-quality quarterback, and are likely to drop from the top 8 after that embarrassing loss.

In baseball, the most boring World Series in recent history ended yesterday, when Dodger & Angel castoff Jeff Weaver pitched 8 great innings for St. Louis to win the final game. David Eckstein, also a former Angel, was the series MVP. The Angels have raised ticket prices 20% for next year and were already far above the Dodger ticket prices; they are going to have to make some major off-season moves to compete. Pitching coach Bud Black is likely to leave to manage San Diego with Bruce Bochy moving to San Francisco.

Now I have to wait four months until spring training starts.

In the NFL, New England plays Monday night against Minnesota. NE is favored by 2, I give them 12 over the Vikings. Buffalo has a badly needed week off.
