If you have specific issues with something I wrote, I would sincerely appreciate you articulating them. Resorting to name calling puts you at the same level as the people you are complaining about.Bondelevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04903592870589154181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13104742.post-64494823155154677202007-03-07T12:40:00.000-07:002007-03-07T12:40:00.000-07:00Wow..... you came off as a bigger douchebag than M...Wow..... you came off as a bigger douchebag than Minkler. The primary audience you address presumably is part of the creative community -- a community that should know the notion of "sticks and stones". In fact, I admire your expressing your viewpoints and always doing so articulately -- and always in a reasonable tone. I have known you to have your opinions. I have never known you to do anything that does not represent your profession in any other way than first rate. Kudos to you. The world is full enough of PC-group-mind-think that it need not invade your blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13104742.post-53514220630341333432007-03-02T15:47:00.000-07:002007-03-02T15:47:00.000-07:00Thanks, Todd. The approach just isn't the one I would have taken. I do agree that the underlying message is the important thing here.

I called David and am glad I did. We both feel the same way about the whole issue. Different ways of phrasing it. You say Ionian, I say major.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13104742.post-65373758167111103322007-03-02T09:23:00.000-07:002007-03-02T09:23:00.000-07:00My blog post is not intended to excuse or blame an...My blog post is not intended to excuse or blame any of the parties involved. I am not Mike's friend. I am his acquaintance from serving on a board with him for a year. I thought I did a good job of avoiding assessing blame in the situation. I specifically pointed out that the whole situation only makes us all look bad.

None of us in post are used to being in the spotlight. I think all parties involved spoke without thinking. I forgive them for that; god knows I've done the same thing, I was just lucky enough that it wasn't in front of a billion people. (For instance, I'm sure you didn't deliberately spell my name wrong, so I'll forgive you for that too.)

I think you misunderstood a lot of what I wrote because you went into it with a certain point of view. For instance, I never "blamed Jerry Bruckheimer," I only pointed out that his films typically do not win awards. We're all a product of what we work on, and most of us have virtually no control over that. Kevin has been nominated for a lot of films that Academy voters would never seriously consider. That's not his fault.

BTW, thanks to whomever plost my blog link on the Digidesign User Conference. I've gotten more hits in the last hour than I got in the previous month. Usually I get about 10 hits a day, mostly from my family.Bondelevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04903592870589154181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13104742.post-62360217139372500992007-03-02T09:03:00.000-07:002007-03-02T09:03:00.000-07:00At least I have the courage to write under my real...At least I have the courage to write under my real name.

If you think this is more appropriate for a private conversation, why don't you contact me directly? He wasn't excusing him, only pointing out how regretful it was that a moment of foolishness turned into a tempest.

Kevin is a very talented individual.

This too shall pass.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13104742.post-56651359450818202872007-03-02T07:56:00.000-07:002007-03-02T07:56:00.000-07:00There was no defense for Minkler's comments. I am your fellow sound nerd and someone you once represented. I am ashamed that you chose to take on this issue by; pointing out your low opinion of the Oscars and the sound award in particular, that Kevin has been nominated for the CAS award 11 times and never won, criticizing Jerry Bruckheimer (yes, HE's the reason for Kevin not getting an award), again blaming the media for even covering Minkler's comments, and finally offering up the (not quite a complete) apology letter from Minkler himself.

Save it for your private conversations. You shouldn't be syaing anything except that "Kevin is a great guy and from all the nominations he has received he is OBVIOUSLY a VERY talented individual. I truly regret Minkler's words"Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
