EASTERN PROMISES

EASTERN PROMISES is a good film with some great acting. It's not as good as some of David Cronenberg's other films (I was a big fan of last year's HISTORY OF VIOLENCE), in fact, it's more restrained than his other films, although there are still very explicit moments of violence, inlcuding a naked knife fight. Viggo Mortensen deserves his nomination for his performance as a Russian mobster. Naomi Watts and Armin Mueller-Stahl are also excellent.

Perhaps the biggest weakness in the film is that it is a little on the predictable side. Otherwise, it's worth seeing.

There are so many things wrong with this comment that I hardly know where to begin.

First of all, you must know that every web site you go to logs every IP address of every post, so it's extremely easy to see that this was someone in class posting, and the timing was minutes after I posted the blog site on the board.

Secondly, exactly how much are you paying for an education that consists of surfing and insulting people instead of listening and learning? If you don't think you need this class, leave school. You don't need a degree to make a movie. And you certainly don't need one to make an ass of yourself.

Also, I did not make personal comments about you or anyone else in class, why would you do it to me?

You might want to learn how to spell "you are" if you want to be in the film industry.

Also, what if I really did go kill myself? There is precedent that you could be considered aiding and abetting a suicide for posting something like that, and you could wind up in prison.

Finally, at least I have the courage to post under my full real name on all the forums I participate in. Would you have posted the same thing if you were accountable?

You first, genius.

PS: BTW, it's "you're", not "your." Not that you'll need grammar in the future to ask people if they want fries with that.

I have to apologize for my friend who posted the original comment. I was in class with him when he posted it, and did not find out until afterward. I'm saddened to think that this gentleman's comments may represent an entire production class in your mind. I hope this one comment has not affected your attitude toward the entire class as a whole. I, personally, enjoyed your lecture.
