Tekon kinkurîto (AKA TEKKONKINKREET) is a Japanese anime film that was directed by an American in Japan.
I had hoped that the presence of an American would fix one of the major problems with anime: lack of coherent plot and structure. Unfortunately, having watched the 2-hour film, I still have no idea what it was about.
However, it was worth watching for the amazing visual style. Like much anime, the whole movies is very dreamlike and episodic. It feels a little on the long side, and some of the violence is too graphic for my taste (violence against children is not entertaining) but otherwise it's a very beautiful film.
